The engine oil filter removes impurities in the engine such as metal particles and soot produced from combustion.
As an engine oil filter becomes contaminated with metal particles and soot, the circulation of oil will, over time, become increasingly restricted.
If the filter becomes blocked, contaminated oil circulates inside the engine without filtration. Operating a engine under these conditions may result in blocked oil passages and premature wear of engine components.
